Here are John's collection of photographs of animals and birds from Antarctica, including several sub-Antarctic islands, with numerous species of penguins, seals, sea lions and ice, and the Arctic, including polar bears, islands and more ice. Catch the ice before it melts!

Exotic Nature

Among these galleries are images from John's winter 2005 trip to northern Japan, including the island of Honshu, with its free-ranging snow monkeys and the mountainous hot springs of Negano prefecture, and from Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido, where winter viciously blows across the sea of Japan from Siberia. Here are images of one of Japan's national treasures, the Red-Crowned (or, Japanese) Crane, whose population is presently estimated at some 2000 individuals in Japan, Siberia and northern China, and the Whooper Swan, which ranges from northern Europe through Russia and into Hokkaido, where thousands winter.

Recent Travels

Although John has been primarily interested in nature photography, he has taken advantage of many opportunities for non-nature-related travel. Among the galleries here are images from Block Island, the Greek Islands and around the world.
